	Background
Ethik connects artisan cooperatives to companies looking to introduce ethically-made products into their supply chain, from single items to curated gift boxes to custom orders in lifestyle, fashion, health and beauty. Focused on helping these small businesses thrive with fair pay, consistent work, and long-term growth, Ethik has grown immensely in the past year and was in dire need of a proper, thought out and sustainable brand strategy. Their previous brand was built piecemeal, with disparate elements that didn’t fit into a cohesive visual language nor ladder up to a holistic brand strategy, and an off-the-shelf e-commerce site that did not effectively tell their rich, impactful story.&#38;nbsp;
	Solutions
As lead designer on the project at Big Monocle, I designed a vibrant new brand, including a new, bespoke wordmark, color palette, pattern library inspired by the cultures of their artisans and custom illustration and iconography sets. Their new website was designed to be both a highly functionable marketplace as well as a storytelling platform, built to scale with them as they grow. The new shop is easily navigable and searchable, with filter optionality so users can find a product based on their needs, and an Impact and About section that tells the Ethik story and brand values with clarity.

	Shufti

	BackgroundShufti is a major player in the global Identity Verification (ID-V) market, serving
over 240 countries and regions worldwide. Looking to expand its global
reach, strengthen its valuation in the United States, and be better positioned as a high-value player in the ID-V space, Shufti looked to Phinney Bischoff for a brand refresh. After working through customer research, competitive research and stakeholder interviews, the Phinney Bischoff strategy team uncovered the insight that became the cornerstone of the Shufti rebrand: the Freedom to Thrive. By offering services that hinge on “ultimate adaptability,” Shufti is able to
adjust to a rapidly changing threat environment and providing their clients
with the freedom to focus on growing their businesses, rather than the constant attacks
that threatens the business.

				
	SolutionsShufti already had equity in their signature brand color, red, which was polar
opposite of their competition and the “sea of blue” found in the security sector. As we began Shufti’s visual rebrand, we
adopted a strategic approach that respected the importance of this
key brand color while expanding the rest of the color palette and introducing a modern update to other key visual
components. This included typography that balanced modernity and an approachable humanity, outwardly emanating graphic devices that create focus and highlight the point of connection between humans and technology, as well as a photo art direction inspired by sources of light.

	BackgroundAs part of a bold rebranding initiative, Ciitizen set out to transform its brand identity. A trailblazing service in cancer healthcare, Ciitizen is dedicated to reshaping how patients manage and engage with their health records. By streamlining access to personal health data, it empowers individuals to make informed decisions about their care and actively participate in advancing medical research. Not uncommon for a start-up, the previous Ciitizen branding took a back seat to the product offering itself, and we set out to bring visual clarity in direction and differentiation. 
	SolutionsWe began the identity redesign with a refreshed wordmark, a clean, bold evolution from their previous mark that reflects Ciitizen’s cyclical nature, where individuals fuel the community and the community supports the individual. The identity was built upon with a bold color palette that is radically differentiating in the healthcare space and a custom display typeface inspired by the patients themselves. With a brand focused on empowerment and understanding, the refreshed brand underscores Ciitizen’s unwavering commitment to putting data control back in the hands of individuals.
Post rebrand, Ciitizen was acquired by leading medical genetics company Invitae for approximately $325 million.

Groq builds ridiculously high-performance, but astonishingly simple chips that are powering the next generation of machine learning. Groq sought out the Big Monocle team to build their brand from the ground up, starting with a brand sprint with the founders that uncovered the brand ethos the identity hinged upon: “Simplify compute, everywhere.”

	
	SolutionsI lead the development and design of&#38;nbsp; Groq’s full brand system from logo through to the first version of their website. In order to communicate the groundbreaking nature of Groq's technological advancement in chip innovation and effectively express their mission to “simplify and reduce compute to its most essential elements, everywhere,” we focused on a custom wordmark (with textural secondary variants that refer to the designers and audience of their products), restrained color palette and a graphic pattern device that speaks to computation and information processing. Not only did we set Groq up for success, we became an extension of their marketing team, applying the brand to everything from presentations and user quick-start guides, to chip board packaging and trade show displays.

	eBay Communities of Inclusion

	BackgroundBeyond a moral necessity, eBay sees D&#38;amp;I as “the foundation of our business model” and absolutely critical to their ability to thrive in an increasingly competitive global landscape. One way eBay achieves this is with Communities of Inclusion — employee-led groups that promote a culture of belonging at both eBay and StubHub. Their communities might focus on age, disability status, ethnicity, gender, religion, military status, parental status, sexual orientation, or gender identity and expression. With chapters all over the world, their communities provide a safe space for employees to discuss topics and participate in activities. But when it came to branding, eBay’s COIs were relying on makeshift logos that varied widely in quality, consistency, and branding. It was time to level up, and invest in their COIs with a logo system that aligned with the new eBay rebrand and that were suitable for t-shirts, events, promotional items, and more.
	Solutions
With that brief in hand, we got to work. The Big Monocle team collaborated with these communities through member interviews and questionnares to create an official COI logo system to represent their unique identities, while fitting into the larger Community of Inclusion umbrella. I took cue from the refreshed eBay branding, with a focus to a grid system, creating a 3×4 grid to develop each logo within. I then defined color palettes, taken from the larger brand palette, for each community to further personalize their branding. Each group now has a unique brand to market themselves, while fitting together as the Communities of Inclusion.
Since launch, two more COIs have been added to the ecosystem, with 500+ global events reaching more than 20,000 attendees.

	BackgroundRanLife is one of Utah‘s leading realtors and home loan providers, competitively differentiated with personable, hard-working realtors and a highly efficient process. But their brand presence was unthoughtful and amateur, headlined by a logo designed by their CFO fifteen years ago. RanLife came to Big Monocle looking to bring their brand into the modern day, with an identity they could build equity in and that visually reflected their competitive, top-tier real estate services.
	SolutionsWhile at Big Monocle, I lead their rebranding effort centered around the key theme discovered during our week-long brand sprint, that buying a home should bring joy and doesn’t have to be so complicated. We started with bringing in a new, contemporary wordmark that speaks to simplicity, featuring a forward moving “i” that set the stage for the supporting identity.&#38;nbsp; A confident color palette, competitively differentiated with navy and mint, clear and usable typography and a diverse set of graphic devices pull RanLife into the present-day arena, allowing for variation within consistency.︎︎︎ www.ranlife.com

	The Minimalist Entrepreneur


	BackgroundSahil Lavingia is a self-taught developer, tech entrepreneur and founder of the web content marketplace, Gumroad. The first employee at Pinterest, he built v1.0 of Gumroad in a single weekend after hitting a wall trying to sell an icon he designed, realizing the considerable amount of effort it took to sell an item directly to consumers. Packed with battle-tested lessons from his journey of building Gumroad, The Minimalist Entrepreneur teaches founders how to start from anywhere to build any kind of software-enabled business. To pair with the book, Sahil also developed a course going further into “zero-to-one” entrepreneurship. Sahil engaged Big Monocle to design the book cover-to-cover, as well as design the “universe” of The Minimalist Entrepreneur including logo, course slide designs and social media.
	SolutionsWe first began our project with the main piece, Sahil’s book cover. Working with Penguin Random House, the prompt from Sahil was to design a cover that conveyed simplicity and minimalism (obviously), as well as being able to accomplish a large amount of work–like starting a business–with the least burn. Key visual direction was also that this book shouldn’t feel like a business book; less cheesy metaphors, more fun and light-heartedness. Along with the front, back and spine designs, we also aided in creative direction of the interior designs and layout. Once we shipped off the final print-ready files to the printer, we were engaged to help design the rest of The Minimalist Entrepreneur universe. This included the course design that accompanied the book, as well as social media graphics and assets.

	Environmental Graphic Design
	Design of large-scale experiential designs for BECU and Intel. Projects include ideation, concept, design and file finalization of graphic lightbox walls at credit union branches, updating the imagery of the 45’ lobby hero wall at BECU HQ and event graphics for Intel’s Security Summit.
